2017年11月7日，對上海燎原雙語小學一年級的同學們來說，是非常棒的一天。來自一年級雙語班的前三名學生為了奪得拼寫大賽的冠軍進行了激烈的角逐。

Nov 7th was a g-r-e-a-t day for the grade 1 spellers. The top three students from grade 1 bilingual class went head-to-head for the chance to be Grade 1 Spelling Champion.

在賽前的準備中，學生們有一周的時間來練習比賽的單詞。其中*括初級學習者所需掌握的前100個單詞。各個班級在周一先舉行了一次小型比賽，選出三名代表參加最后的比賽。

To prepare for this, the students were given one week to practice the words for the competition. The words consisted of the first 100 sight words needed for beginner readers. On Monday, each class had a mini competition to choose the best three who would compete in the final competition.

學生們從拼寫兩個字母的單詞，循序漸進到三個和四個字母的單詞。決賽中要求拼出的單詞是：which、these和words，最終的獲獎者分別是：**名Chris Yu(G1-5)，第二名Yoyo Fang(G1-1)，第三名 Angela Li(G1-4)。

Students begun the competition with spelling two letter words, then moved up to three and four letter words heading into the finals. The final words spelt were: which, these and words, and the winners were: 1st place = Chris Yu (class 5), 2nd place = YoYo Fang(class 1) and 3rd place = Angela Li (class 4).

看到這么多一年級學生的熱情參與，我們也更期待下一次的比賽了。同學們都期待下一次自己能取得更好的名次，紛紛表示今后會更加努力學習他們的英語拼寫。

It was amazing to see so many keen spellers in grade 1 and we look forward to the next one. Many students are already thinking about how they can win next time and they pledge to work hard on their spelling.
