“天才就是1%的天賦加上99%的汗水。”這句耳熟能詳的名言曾是很多人的座右銘，告訴我們后天的努力是成功必不可少的因素。但是，現實生活中有些人就是先天的天才，不需要很努力就可以在某一領域取得很高的成就。智力對我們的生活到底有什么樣的影響呢?光華美高本期演講將圍繞著“為什么僅憑智力是不夠的呢?”這個話題展開，大家自選立場，各抒己見。

本場**位選手戴同學以神童方仲永的事例論證，一個人僅僅靠聰明是不足夠的，后天的努力十分重要。小時候的方仲永聰明過人，落筆成詩。他父親就帶他到處作詩掙錢，導致方仲永沒有繼續接受教育，所以?大以后寫詩水平依舊沒有提升，名氣也日漸消減。戴同學認為21世紀成功的因素有很多，例如積累、合作等等。一個人的出?決定了他的上限，但?個人的努力決定了他的下限!

Edison said that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. There are such abundant examples about postnatal effort that can enhance intelligence that I'd like to mention a familiar one. When Lang Lang was 10 years old. He entered the attached primary school of the central conservatory of music with the first place. He had to complete eight hours of training every day. After winning the first prize in the piano competition, 13-year-old Lang Lang lived the life of a student at school and home every day. In the morning, study culture; in the afternoon, practice piano under the guidance of teachers. When he got home after a day of lessons, he continued to practice. Eventually he became an excellent pianist.

第二位選手王同學拿到題目后首先理性分析什么是“足夠”，但凡我們在生活中提到這個詞，那就意味著這我們正通過一個特定的標準來判斷，就像我們平常總說足夠干什么事。所以，當面對一些問題的時候，我們先要明確到底是為了什么足夠，再去考慮如何達成某個目標。

The first thing you do after receiving the topic is to analyze it. The term “enough” indicates that there must be a certain criteria or a purpose, like We often use the phrase “enough for” and “enough to” So here we ask, what for?

第三位選手趙同學引用丹尼爾·戈爾曼教授的名言，指出一個人若只是聰明而不會做人，未必能穩操勝券;相反，會做人并懂得處理好人際關系，往往能彌補不夠聰明的缺陷。在她看來，智商雖然重要，但是光有智商是不夠的，情商的培養和鍛煉也是必不可少的。

I believe you will encounter people with high IQ and low EQ. Let me give you an example that I still remember vividly. When I was in primary school, I had an excellent classmate at the same desk, every exam, he can get a hundred, except Chinese. Every time I accepted his merciless mock. He always spoke some hurtful words to his classmates and attacked their shortcomings. Few people in the class played with him, only I, his desk mate, played with him occasionally, although he often spoke some hurtful things to me. But that's not what annoyed me the most. I believe that everyone has a favorite person when they are young.

第四位選手王同學以自己的求學經歷來闡述這個關于智商的主題。于她而言，從小被夸聰明，長大卻不太愛學習，但又總能靠小聰明考出成績，后來又在一些重大考試中摔跤失利。這段曲折的經歷讓她感觸頗深，也讓她意識到人生就像一場旅途，只有不斷地努力提升自我，方可走得更遠，看到更靚麗的風景。

Life is like a road that never ends. We keep moving forward to pursue different ideals.Why study? Why grow? Because we can only go further on this road if we constantly improve our abilities in all aspects and improve ourselves.Intelligence is just a starting point. It only gives us a forward force at the beginning, no matter how big the force is, it can't let us go all the time. Just like force is the reason to change the state of motion, but not to maintain the state of motion. We need to continue to draw on other forces to move forward, like hard-working, self-discipline and perseverance.

第五位選手魏同學認為和智商相比，情商更重要。情商可以幫助你解決或避免一些人際關系上的問題，如果你只有智商而缺乏情商，那么你的生活肯定會受到負面影響。例如當眾說出別人的考試成績，并且加以貶低和諷刺;口無遮攔的說出嫌棄別人辛辛苦苦做出的成果，這些行為都會招致別人的厭煩。如果我們把智商與情商結合，并且運用到現實生活當中，得到的結果會更好。

Here is another example, I met a girl with low EQ a few years ago. In those days, my classmates were engaged in club activities. At that time, I joined the cooking club. Our task was to make a home-made dish together by each group. When the dish was ready, we tasted the taste. At that moment, one of the girls said：“ Have you add too much salt? It’s too salty! I’ve never eaten such a terrible dish!” Everyone was looking at her, but she didn’t realize the situation. You know, the atmosphere at that time was already extremely awkward, but she still continued saying who made this dish? It sucks. After seeing these examples, I’m pretty sure that you must be fairly clear about the consequences of low EQ.

第六位選手施同學認為當代社會大家都非常的重視天賦，甚至大家常常將它直接和成功連接起來。的確，天賦是非常的重要。在每年數百萬的高考考生中，僅僅只有幾千人能進入北大和清華這兩個高等級學府，這些人憑借著天賦脫穎而出。但是，他認為最重要的是我們對于天賦的看法，很多時候不同人對于天賦的看法往往會決定他們是否能成功。

Life is like a race. All people are trying to get the finishing line of the race by their capacities in their life span. Most people start at the origin, while some people born with talents have already get forefront of the race. At the beginning, it is already an unequal competition but it is the attitudes people exert on the race that make the difference between people.You could see some of the people may be behind others at start point but they run beyond others and catch up with some front-runners by their industry because they know they already lose the competitions of intelligence and have perceptions that the > hard-work than others. So, they may be in inferior condition at the start, but eventually win at the end.

第七位選手胡同學認為一個人僅有智力是不夠的，情商也是我們需要具備的一個重要特征。她從情商的概念以及自我意識、自我調節、動機和同理心四大特征兩大角度分析情商對于我們的重要性。

Intelligence is definitely not enough. Emotional intelligence is also an important feature we need to have. Emotional intelligence, also known as EQ, is the ability to understand other people, what motivates them, and how to work collaboratively. EQ includes four features, self awareness, self-regulation, motivation, and empathy.
